New Hickory Tavern Water Tank

Laurens County Water and Sewer Commission unveils new and improved water tank for Hickory Tavern community

Laurens, SC — September 22, 2023 — The Laurens County Water and Sewer Commission (LCWSC) is pleased to present a new and improved water tank to serve the Hickory Tavern community. The new tank will replace the old tank that stood for years adjacent to the site, one of the original elevated tanks for the Rabon Creek Rural Water District.

The old tank was constructed in 1972 to bring public water to the rural parts of Laurens County. It served the community well for many years, providing reliable water service and fire protection to many homes and businesses in and around Hickory Tavern.

The new water tank is 100,000 gallons larger and 25 feet taller than the previous tank and will better meet the water demands of a growing population in this part of the County.

Years ago, community leaders throughout the County and in Hickory Tavern recognized the benefits public water would provide to Laurens County. Their hard work and vision from the 1960s and 1970s are still alive, and just as effectual today as evidenced by the recent completion of the LCWSC Lake Greenwood Water Treatment Facility. These efforts that led to the formation of our rural water district, now the Laurens County Water and Sewer Commission, were key once again in funding and building the new 250,000-gallon tank.

The Hickory Tavern Tank was made possible with assistance from LCWSC Board of Commissioners, LCWSC staff, Laurens County Council, the Capital Projects Sales Tax Commission, Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC), Caldwell Tanks, and the taxpayers of Laurens County.
