LCWSC is joining communities across North America in celebrating Drinking Water Week, May 3-9, 2026. Led by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), this annual observance highlights the importance of safe, reliable drinking water and recognizes the dedicated water professionals who work around the clock to keep it flowing.
“Safe drinking water is something people count on every day, often without a second thought,” said AWWA CEO David LaFrance. “Drinking Water Week is an opportunity to recognize the professionals who make that service possible and to reflect on the continued work it takes to maintain and strengthen the systems our communities depend on.”
At LCWSC, Drinking Water Week is a time to recognize the vital role water plays in our daily lives, from protecting public health and supporting fire protection to helping homes, schools, businesses, and essential community services thrive. It is also an opportunity to thank the trained professionals who help ensure high-quality water is delivered safely and reliably to our customers every day.
Much of the work that keeps drinking water safe happens quietly behind the scenes. Water is routinely treated, tested, and monitored to meet strict safety standards. Equipment is checked, systems are maintained, and data is carefully reviewed so potential issues can be addressed early. This ongoing work helps protect public health and supports the reliable service our community depends on.
Before water reaches the tap, it moves through several important steps, including treatment, storage, and distribution. Each part of the system must be carefully operated and maintained to keep water safe and dependable across our service area.
LCWSC maintains more than 900 miles of water main, 13 storage tanks, and two treatment facilities serving our community. Taking good care of this infrastructure, while continuing to invest in improvements, helps ensure reliable water service today and for generations to come.
